Unlock the secrets to postpartum success with our Parental Wellness Class: Prep for Post!

As a labor and postpartum doula of five years, I know firsthand that the postpartum period is a time of immense change, joy, and adjustment. It’s also a phase that often leaves new and seasoned parents feeling overwhelmed and unprepared for the unique challenges that come with healing, bonding, and caring for a newborn - and sometimes other kids in the home. i have seen parents have incredible smooth adjustments into parenting, and I’ve seen parents have profound challenges. And I want to bridge that gap. That’s why I am thrilled to offer a class to start our education program and add to our menu of comprehensive services that addresses specifically this. It’s called Prep for Post and it’s a game-changer for families stepping into this new chapter.

Why the Prep for Post Class is Essential (and Why I Love It)

Prep for Post Class isn’t just another parenting class—it’s a lifeline designed to empower families with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive during the “4th trimester” and beyond. Here’s why I love it and chose to add it to my services:

  • Expert Guidance: Prep for Post was created by a seasoned therapist with extensive training in child development, trauma, perinatal health and attachment. But she made it super accessible so that anyone perinatal professional can lead it or parents can even do a self-paced online version. She also collaborated with highly seasoned professionals in the birth field like IBCLCs and Doulas.

  • Holistic Approach: Prep for Post covers so much more than just mental health. It covers emotional well-being to relationship dynamics and information about what feeding and sleep options might mean for your family. It doesn’t just look at one member of the family - it looks at and includes everyone.

  • Community Connection: Parents gain access to a supportive network of peers, creating an invaluable space to share experiences, tips, and encouragement. We agree with Through to THRIVE about the importance and value of community. Birch Tree Birth Services was founded on the deep seeded belief that everyone deserves support during such a vulnerable and impactful change in their life. I wholeheartedly feel it is not enough to just claim that it takes a village to raise a child, but that we should actively strive to create that village to support those in our community and this class as well as all the services I offer is my way of trying to help create that village of support to help growing families.

What You’ll Learn in the Prep for Post Class

  • Strategies to manage postpartum recovery, including understanding mood changes like postpartum blues or depression.

  • Tools to balance mental health and self-care while attending to the demands of new parenthood.

  • Insights into newborn feeding, sleep, and bonding that simplify early parenting and create balanced families rather than stressed ones.

  • Ways to foster strong family connections and navigate the evolving dynamics with a partner or other children.

  • Quarterly check-in calls scheduled at a time that works best for you to see how you’re doing, if you need any resources, and if you need any help adjusting your plan to accommodate any big changes.

Who Should Join This Class?

EVERYONE! We know that postpartum mood challenges do not discriminate based on age, socioeconomic status, race, gender, whether you have a history of challenges or not, or sexual orientation. Sometimes people worry about postpartum challenges because they have a known risk factor, but many parents think they’ll be totally fine because they have a lot of resources or didn’t have PMADs with their first child, and then PMADs catch them off guard. Whether you’re a first-time parent, welcoming another baby, or just want to support your adult child through postpartum recovery, this course is for you. It’s also ideal for anyone looking to supplement their birth preparation classes with a dedicated focus on the postpartum period parental wellness.

Plus, everyone who signs up for the class [in-person and/or online] gets to bring one support person of their choosing! It can be their spouse, parent/grandparent, or bestie. I love when pregnant folks involve their communities!

Postpartum mom and baby sleeping.

Hello out there!

Happy May! We hope that wherever you are, the sun is shining for you. Last month we covered what to expect when you hire us as labor doulas so this month it’s only appropriate that we cover a bit about postpartum doulas.

Postpartum doulas are doulas who come to your home and care for you, your baby(ies), the household, your pets, and even other children. Every postpartum doula is different so be sure to ask specific questions before signing a contract.

At Birch Tree Birth Services some tasks we will complete are,

1 Caring for baby while the parents take a break.

2 Assisting the birthing parent in tasks that may be difficult after childbirth.

3 Being the bottle and pump parts caretaker.

4 Loading and unloading the dishwasher.

5 Unbelievable amounts of laundry .

6 Provide informational support and recommend professionals we personally trust and work with.

7 General pet care such as walking or feeding.

8 Batch prepping formula.

9 Light meal prep.

10 Tidying about the home.

Hiring a postpartum doula is about so much more than a checklist of tasks—it’s about finding a compassionate companion. When you welcome a postpartum doula into your home, you’re inviting someone who will listen to your birth story again and again, sit beside you through hormone shifts, and celebrate even the smallest milestones. We understand that every family’s postpartum journey is unique, which is why our support is as diverse as the families we serve. Our goal is to hold parents and siblings just as tenderly as we hold your baby(ies). Hiring a postpartum doula is not just a transaction, it is inviting someone into your village.

We would love to talk to you about your family's postpartum needs! If you'd like to join us for a free consultation over coffee, please reach out below.

Laboring mom in birth pool being supported by birth doula and partner.

Hello out there!

Happy World Doula Week! In conclusion of our week-long celebration, we bring you a brand new blog post…

What can I expect when I hire Birch Tree Births as labor doulas?

We get this question a lot, and it’s an important one! I’ll answer this question in two ways; a list and something more worthy of a blog.

When you hire Birch Tree Birth Services to attend your birth, we have a series of meetings each with a different purpose.

  1. An initial consultation

  2. Your first doula prenatal

  3. Your second doula prenatal (optional)

  4. A doula who attends your birth beginning as early as you need and won’t leave unless you ask

  5. Up to 2 hours of support immediately postpartum

A few more services we offer throughout your experience regardless of the package you choose are…

  1. A split call schedule between your doula team, so you are guaranteed to have a well rested and focused doula when the time comes

  2. 24/7 support via phone, text, or email

  3. Printed resources from our private collection including some by Evidence Based Birth

While all this is true and a fair explanation of our services, there is so much more that goes into doula support and your birth experience.  As labor doulas, our mission is to support your birth wishes in the most thoughtful and personalized way possible. We understand that each family is unique, and every individual’s needs may vary. That’s why we take the time to ask the important questions during our thorough prenatal sessions, ensuring we are fully aligned with your vision for your birth experience. When you hire Birch Tree Birth Services to be part of your birth team, you’re bringing on someone who will support you mentally, physically, and emotionally. We provide essential support to your partner, hold space for your birth experience, listen attentively, and approach every moment with courage and empathy.

You might be wondering, “Why Birch Tree Birth Services?” What sets them apart is the small business feel coupled with their team-based approach. When you choose Birch Tree Birth Services, you’re not just hiring one doula; you’re bringing a team of dedicated professionals who have your best interests at heart. They are committed to being gentle guides, strong supporters, and your second-biggest cheerleaders (right behind your chosen partner, parent, or personal support person, of course). Hiring birch tree birth services is more than just bringing a doula into your birth journey. It’s about inviting a team that embodies strength, love, and compassion into your life. It’s about creating a community, a village, that will not only nurture and support you through the miracle of birth, but will continue to stand by you as your family grows. Our approach isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s about creating a personalized experience that honors your needs, your wishes, and the sacredness of this moment.
